Lighting Advice Needed

hi newbie here i am setting up a tropical tank i had one years ago,but for the life of me i cannot remember the wattage of starter/tubes i need i have a three foot tank thank you for any help in advance

A 3 foot fluorescent tube will be 30 watts. Those bulbs run 10 watts per foot in normal T-8 and T-12 bulbs. A bigger question for me is why do you care? Are you about to try to grow plants or do you just want to light the tank for fish? It can make a big difference in how much light you need.

A normal 3 ft tube should be fine for that.
