My tank is 18 inches deep, with my lights 2 foot above the substrate.

I have been struggling to grow my Eleocharis parvula for several months - it looses all colour and does not grow! Yet everything else was SHOOTING up to the surface of the tank at a great rate!!

I had 2 54W T5 tubes and was dosing EI.

I spoke to The Green Machine who suggested that my lights were just not hitting the substrate, so i could try doubling my light.

So i now have A LOT of light, with 4x54W tubes (my tank is a 360L). The Parvula is growing!!! YAY! Finally seeing green shoots which is fantastic - light was clearly the answer.

HOWEVER, i now have a MASS of algae! In the last week it has grown over all my rocks etc. CO2 is as high as i can put it, as is my flow.

Any solutions? I am thinking some zebra snails. How many could i get in my 360L? I hear they do a great job.....

More ferts and more water changes. Treating the underlying cause is the top priority. Ottos, shrimps etc are useful at shifting the last remaining bits but should not be heavily relied on.
