Thanx Andy, I have lots of T8 light over my nano but when I come to upgrade the main tank, I will bear it in mind :)

Mr G - also interesting, I guess it makes sence when you stop and think about it!

EDIT - I guess the next question is what T5 controlers do people use?

Could this be explained by the light reflecting of the minute particles that make up the tannins?

The peat stained rivers and lochs in Scotland do the same thing. Although the water appears clear it is saturated by minute particles of peat that reflect and absorb the light, thus starving the algea and plants of light.

Perhaps another good reason for frequent water changes!
