Light In My Tank

how long does my light in my fish tank need to be on for is it any specific time period
as i leave for work in 7 in the morning and dont come back till 9 at night what should i do should i get a timer fo the light or is there no need

A lot depends on what is in the tank. If all you have is fish, ornaments and plastic plants, turn the light on when you are in the room to enjoy the fish and leave it off the rest of the time. If you have live plants, you will need a very regular lighting regime probably in the 6 to 8 hour range. It is best to use a timer for planted tanks and adjust the time as dictated by algae growth and plant growth to get a good balance.
