Hi i want to make a lid with a light in for a betta Vase, it's got to be round and 6 inchs wide.

I'm thinking along the lines of a biorb type lid but basically i need to know what type of small light bulb (not strip or tube light) would be suitable and could i use tinfoil to reflect it?

(i don't really want mylar coz this is on a real budget and i only need a tiny bit)

Also would the bulb have to be covered with something to keep out moisture?

You should consider using the energy saving power compact bulbs (as shown here). The ones that fit a normal incandescent light fitting. It would need completely waterproofing.

Hi

What I Use is:

A Clear CD with a marble Siliconed to it.

And a 12 Watt Halogen Desk Lamp.

Costs About £5.00 in Total for the Lamp and CD

lol thats what i was going to do but the neck of the vase is too big and the cd just falls in!

The incandescent light looks quite good, i'll hafta hava look in B&Q an see if they've got the nescessary bits.
Thanks! :)

Heres an Idea i Sometimes Use.

Pounshop/thrift store/charity shop/99p-cstore. - Perpex clear Picnic Plates - Nice and Simple and Cheap
or you could rummage at you local Charity shop and get a glass saucer or side plate.

If you fancied something a bit flashier (but possibly a little more expensive) get some ultra bright white LEDs (I'd guess around 10 to 15) and wire them into a plastic plate or something.

Then, while you are at it you could wire in some blue ones as a night light.

As I say, a little more expensive, and a little more work, but could have a great result.

Thanks, actually i've changed my mind about the vase for the time being coz i've bought a
12'' x8'' x8'' tank which i'm making a wooden hood for and i'm gonna put a white cold cathode in it for lighting

red-devil0602- thanks for the mylar, you gave me more than enough so i'm going to use it for my new hood aswell as possibly another if this one works :hey:

My boyfriend is starting to realise what a monster this website has unleashed! :alien:
