I just upgrade my single light strip to a double. One bulb is a marine glo which is supposed to be like moon lite and is 30watt. The other bulb is 25watt which came with the strip. I upgraded the strip because my plants were dying and needed more light. The problem is my water temp has gone up 2 degrees and I am worried it will keep climbing. I leave the light on normally 9-10 hrs a day. I have a 30 gallon community tank with live bearers and tetras. My heater is working fine. I keep checking the thermostat to make sure it is ok. I don't want to fry my fish. Please Help. Thanks

To try to figure out how much the heaters are actually being used, look for the red heater light, that will go on when the heater is turned on. If you see it going on frequently, then it is from the heaters needing to be adjusted. That would be the first place i would check as it has the easiest solution

Do the lights seem to get extremely hot?

My heater does not have a light. I will get a new one tomorrow. I kept checking by feeling the heater to make sure it did not come on. The lights don't seem to be hotter than normal. It is a brand new light strip. What is the normal time to leave the light on for?

normal is 10-12 hours, so you should be fine. How much hotter is the tnak now compared to normal?
It has always been a steady 77 and now it is up to 79. The light has been turned off and the temp has dropped half of a degree.

I would turn your heater down. If it is only dropping 1/2 a degree after the lights go out, the the change probably isn't from the lights.
The temp has always been a steady 77. Then I got a twin light strip and the temp rose to 79. Then I turn out the light at night and get up look at the temp it reads 78.5. I turn the light on and the temp goes back up. Maybe if I raise the light up with blocks or something that may help. What do you think.?
