One thing that I've never noticed in any of my fish books is how long I can expect my fish to live for, assuming water conditions etc are ok. The staff in the lfs are quite vague on this too. I know that clown loaches take around 8 years to grow, but how about smaller fish, in particular, guppies, white clouds & cories?

I also wish there was a place that gave lifespans of fish. I have considered adding a lifespan field to my site eventually, but I would have to find the lifespan of the fish first!

Some sites try to list lifespans. One of them is freshaquarium.about.com

http://freshaquarium.about.com/cs/loaches1/p/clownloach.htm
http://freshaquarium.about.com/cs/livebearers2/p/guppy.htm

I have used that site to double check some fish profile information. Their information is usually pretty good, although it sometimes disagrees with other sites I trust more. However, they do provide a lifespan estimate for every fish they profile.

lifespan can depend on species and care of fish and suitable housing. if a tank is too small for the fish they will outgrow the tank and shorten the lifespan. goldfish in bowls is a great example. goldfish are supposed to reach 12 in and they cant do that in a gold fish bowl so they end up dying sooner.

This is a 2 1/2 year old thread. The "related" threads displayed at the bottom of another thread are often ancient. Whatever the original question, it has usually been solved already.
