i went to my lfs today to look at thier betta's and they had a few that were ctbf's they had white bodies and then the fins were a silver grey color with the white like a butterfly. is it possible they are really this color or are they just pale due to stress/health? if they are this color they are really pretty!

ive seen the all white ones! they are beautiful! i just haddnt seen any like this yet, thats why im wondering if it might just be pale...

if he is that beautiful and is in fact pale, he would be gorgeous when in a proper tank.
but i have a greyish guy. so the color is possible.
cheers

well its settled then. if he is still there when my tank is ready then im going to get him! he was quite lively in his cup, even flared at me:)

Nice to see you getting prepared Flip!

All i can say is

WELCOME To the world of betta's :D

i wish i could reserve him but it is going to be a bit before the tank is ready. i have to put the dividers in and cycle it still:( but there were a few of that coloration so im hoping...

thanks knox, trying to get there, it will go faster after christmas when i have more $ !!

yep im in the US. i i only know two people with tanks, one has a turtle and the other has oscars. i dont think that he would make it in either tanks:( its going to be a while before the tank is ready or i would put him in a large jar. hmmm thought maybe a big tub? lots of water changes...gahh he may be better off there than in the cup at the store. course i wont have the money to get him till after christmas so he may well be gone already:(

Why couldn't you just buy a plain 5-gallon tank (I know they sell 'em around here; I'm in Canada and @ my PetSmart they sell just the tanks for around $20), and keep him in there for a little while; and perform weekly water changes of 50%? Hmm? :) XD :D

Where in ontario are you?? Thats expensive for a 5gal tank i get mine for like 1 dollar used don't ask lmao, but 10gal are like 13-15dollars send me wisper if you are interested maybe I can get a new tank for ya ^^

does your friends turtle tank have a filter? (they should if they dont). if so, ask if you could take some of their media(offer to replace what you take of course). turtles are very messy and the filter in their tank will have plenty of bacteria to clone a small filter.
i have a turtle with a big external canister and always just use her media when i set up a new tank. with a home-made sponge filter (what i always use in betta taks) it usually doesnt even have to cycle. its just ready to go.
if youd like instructions on how to build a really easy (and cheap) filter for a betta, let me know. they work much better at keeping the water quality stable than other small commercial filters.
cheers

flip i think you said you live in the us if thats correct, i have an extra space in my 29 gallon "male condos" tank ;) its divided into 5 sections, i only have 4 males right now. if youd like i can put him in there in the meantime (if youre close, or want to ship him)

also
if he is in a cup, you could probably put him in a bowl til your tank is ready and he will be much happier and better off than in the cup.
meanwhile at the store, he is just going to be in that cup til he dies, or someone buys him. so might as well just get him now :p and just be diligent with water changes. petsmart sells a 2.5 gallon tank with a glass lid (no heater or filter though) for only 13 bucks. or you could check craigslist, people usually sell used tanks on there for cheap. good luck :D
