I have a 10 gallon brackish water livebearer tank. 4 mollies, 2 swordtails. I would post my Ammonia stats etc, but it has been very up and down due to me trying to get rid of the problem. My stats were all 0, with a 7.6 PH and a roughly 30 of NitrAte beforehand. Some time ago I noticed I had Callumanus worms. They were disturbingly present in a young female molly - I counted atleast 6 worms. The only other that showed signs of the worm was another female with 1 small worm protruding. The others seemed fine.

Well I ordered Panacur from the US (Fenbenzadole) to treat the problem but it didnt work. The only thing it did was make my water cloudier than a rainy day and cake itself to my graval. Iv done many gravel cleans since then but it was still stuck inside some nooks and crannies.

Well this Friday that just passed, I managed to get myself on some Levamisole. I put half a gram in some water to dilute it then put the contents into the tank. Within id say 30 mins I noticed worms dropping like flies from my young molly. Thrilled, thinking everything was ok, I left for the night. I came back the next morning to find my black sailfin molly with very bloated eyes. Him, and the others, were very listless just hanging out at the bottom of the tank. This has continued into today only my black sailfin now has raised scales and a swollen head. They have not eatten in these 2 days because they are just sitting on the bottom of the tank and im getting very worried.

Does anyone know what could be the cause of this? Could it be a bad case of the leftover panacur stuck in the gravel mixing with the levamisole? Or did the medication awaken a problem inside my black molly?

Should I treat with Maracyn for possible popeye or Dropsy when I take out the Levamisole?

Help!

Hi,
Chances are your fish has had too many internal damage to survive the treatment. Sorry :( Their immune systems are compromised by the worms.

Once you have wormed the fish you are meant to back up with a bacterial med.

Internal parasites cause alot of damage to the insides of the fish resulting in bacteria infections.
Sometimes the med to late if the damage has already been done.

Also levaimsole can knock fish for a few days.

I would do a good gravel vac to get rid of the worms.
Then add a bacterial med if you don't have to run black carbon to get rid of the med.
As sometimes you just preform a large water change with some worming meds.

Let us know how you get on if you don't mind.
Also if the fish were already weakened the med could of finished them off.
