there are quite a few black streaks on the fins of my leopard molly and they seem to have gotten worse lately. He seems fine at the minute however there are 1 or 2 small black marks on his body too

note too that the black marks on the fins go in the direction of the "grain" of the fin for want of a better word

He's orange / white so this isn't right surely...

can anyone help me? Thanks

edit: here is a leopard molly:

2nd edit: i can see the same thing on my black molly, help please!

ccan anyone help? come home and my black molly has similar symptoms to the gup[py that died, but with the same black tail stripes as shown in the above picture

HELP!

Right need water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
Black patches and streaks are ammonia burns that are now healing.

really? Both are all clear. My suspision is that I've got a bacterial infection brought in by some danios, which killed a guppy, a danio and a couple of white clouds. They appear to be breathing faster and were acting weird earlier, similar to the now dead guppy was a couple of days before he died although they look fine now

I've got a hospital tank ready to go, i've got the following in my tank:

5X neon tetra - look to have bacterial disease, possibly dropsey, stomachs stick out when fed. (been like this for 2-3 weeks)
2X zebra danio - may well have been the cause f the problem
2X molly, both breathing slightly faster and have increasing numbers of marks as described on their tails
1X male guppy looks healthy but darts up and down near the filter occasionally ???
1X shrimp - healthy

Thing is, the mollies havn't been subjected to any ammonia / nitrite (i test regularly) since i've had them (1 month exactly) so unless there is a large time delay, its probably something else, probably bacteria

Advice on what needs hospitalising? I've got anti-internal-bacteria treatment in the hospital tank, it's almost at temp now

I was under the impression that salt wasn't really needed, it also isn't really an option with tetras... is it?

Which fish do you think i need to put in the hospital tank? Just noticed one of the mollies rubbing himself on an object in the tank...

edit: found this: http://tcoletti.tripod.com/molly_salt_debate.html

No don't add salt to the tank if you have tetra's.
Are there any little black pin pricks spots on the fish.
Sorry had to go somewhere that why its been a late reply.

there are 3 small pin sized pricks on his body

just noticed the gppy had some black marks on his front fins (under the gills)which i had not seem before (they are new)

dorsal fin is also not up as often as before, doesnt look happy. I've transferred him to hospital tank with 2 other tetras, see how he does now

I had an experience where the rays in the dorsal fin of one of my balloon mollies turned black, similar to what you are describing. This went after a week or so. I don't know if it's the same thing, but if so, your leopard should be okay. Not sure about black spots, though.

On a side note, mollies really do need salt to be healthy. See pinned topic: Mollies Need Salt!

I've had real problems with disease recently due to bying some diseased danios :hyper:

One more issue: my Dalmation Molly keeps turning around fast on himself in the tank, his breathing appears to be slightly heavier than usual too. Hospital tank for him too - is this the signs of bacterial infection? Thanks

They can labour breath with alot of deseases from parasites to bacterial infections.
What do you have in the hospital tank as i would add some salt.
Is there plenty of aeration in there.

i thought i read something not long ago on here about fish chasing their tail or something :S

got 2X neon tetras in the hospital tank recovering from a bacterial infection, would it be wise to put the dalmation molly in there if he keeps acting funny? I've turned the lights down in the main tank just to try and quieten things down  The two mollies are always chasing each other and the guppy is never far away from them either

There a desease called whirling desease, you don't tend to hear of it much but there has been a few cases on here, the fish will spin or whirl really fast looks like it's chasing its tail.

black molly now has the same black lines on his front fins and is resting at the bottom of the tank. Bacteria or just resting/ recovering? His dorsal fin is up a lot and he appears to be breathing normally. Temp at 26 degrees c and ammonia/nitrite have gone down to zero now the anti bacteria treatment in the main tank is finished
