Hi

the last few weeks one of my leopard danio have become very FAT as if she was about to bust with eggs or something (i think its eggs)

What is it
is she ready to breed or something

( i have read alot of things about fat fish and most of them have died with eggs inside them  )

Can the fish maintain it's balance in the water, any scales sticking out like a pinecone, what do you feed the fish, i would feed some shelled peas.

Not the writer of this information.

Egg Binding

Symptom: The fish is severly bloated in the belly only (not the whole body). The fish may also be lethargic, exhibit rapid breathing and have a loss of appetite. Egg binding can occur in freshwater fish during their spawning cycle. If a fish can not find a suitable mate, has been fed a poor diet, or if the tank or water conditions of the aquarium are not ideal for spawning, a fish may not be able to release its eggs.

Treatment: There is no medical treatment for egg binding. The only treatment for this is to let the eggs be naturally absorbed into the fish's body. This process can be aided with Epsom Salt soaks. Siphon a bucket of tank water and mix in one slightly rounded tablespoon of Epsom Salt for every gallon of water. Add an airstone, place the fish in the water, cover the bucket and allow the fish a 15 - minute soak. Repeat this treatment daily until the fish begins to recover.

the fish seems great always swiming around like danio

the fish is eating just fine

(the fish has tropical flake food)

Not a very good diet i'm afraid to many dried foods can cause constipation and swim bladder problems, you need frozen foods like bloodworm, brimestrimp, daphnia, riverstrimp etc, plus veg in there diet like peas, broc, cabbage etc.

You need to improve there diet, i would give the poorly fish some shelled peas, has she darkened in colour as when they obsorb eggs they can get infections internally.

Dont like the sound of the pale belly i would issolate her if you can and i would give her a salt bath, follow the instructions in the article above, boil some peas for a few minutes, let cool, pop out of shell and sqeeze between finger so it's crushed and they can eat it better.

Dont like the sound of the pale belly

Neither do i. The same thing happened to one of my danios couple of years ago and then it died. :byebye:

hi
we used to have 10 danios (zebra & leopard) & had several 'batches' from different lfs, & they all died within a year & most of them initially used to swim in a sort of 'wobbly' way before becoming bloated & eventually dying. they spent quite a while doing the wobbly swimming thing looking quite happy - eating, zipping around etc....before eventually bloating & then being euthanased when it was obvious they were struggling or dying. dont know what it was but i read an editors article in a popular fishkeeping mag here in the uk( practical fishkeeping) & this person also had bad problems with danios & she was obviously very experienced in fishkeeping. she suggested it could be due to some unknown virus coupled with the effects of inbreeding ( as danios are such popular fish). we loved our dnios but for supposedly hardy fish we had neverending probs with them & have sadly given up trying to keep them. hopefully this is NOT the problem with yours
good luck
