hi all,
just wondering if i could keep a leopard ctenapoma with:
1 large rainbow shark
1 young (2-3 inches) discus
and 5 adult congo tetras.
the tank is 40 gallons and if i got one, it would be about an inch long.
:D

I think he'd be OK. How aggressive is the shark?

he's big, but he's a little puppie if you know what i mean. infact, he's so nice, he lets all the fish at once huddle together in his hiding place, it's the funniest thing i have ever seen :D

I'd say, it's a go! But wait for a bit...maybe someone else will have an opinion. My Ctenopoma is very placid,( he's very small) and no one bothers him. They are beautiful, although can be a little difficult to feed.

ok,
i feed my fish the fallowing, would he take them?
brine shrimp,
blood worm,
rare flake (for nutrition)
spectrum pellets
mysis shrimp
shrimp pellets (for shark)
discus mix(frozen food)
and, i have also seen the one in the store take flakes! :hyper:
but he may have to wait, i'm a little over stocked in my 20 gallon. maybe you could help me with that?
it is mainly... ya know... those fish you just get to make some one happy and you have only 1 or 2 of.
my 20 gallon has (don't laugh at me, i know it's horrible)
2 rainbow sharks
2 new guiney rainbow fish
1 penguin tetra
1 platy
a few mollies (i hate mollies, no offends to anyone)
and a babie corie cat fish.
the extras could go:
55 gallon tank at a school i went to (i'm taking care of it)
300 gallon stock for feeder guppies, very dangerous( huge pumps, birds, racoons etc.)
500 gallon indoor pond (comming soon) full of large archer fish and a big pleco.
and a 110 with a greed terror(maybe), a yellow lab(maybe), and a few small archer fish.
Thanks for all of your time, i really apreciate it.
p.s.
the fish with (maybe) by them could end up in any of the tanks/ ponds i have listed (not the 20 gallon)
once again, thanks! :D

I wouldn't add the Cteopoma to the 20 gal. Sorry, I should have asked the tank size first. You're way overstocked. The two Rainbows shouldn't be together, and neither should be in a 20 gal. tank. If I were you, I'd research the requirements for the fish that are in the 20gal....rehome ....than redo the tank...or you could get a new tank!!!

ok, first of all, the ctenapoma wouldn't go in the 20 gallon!
second, I KNOW IT IS OVER STOCKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and last, the rainbows do quite well together, infact they breed weekly.

With no experience keeping rainbow sharks and Leopard Ctenopoma's it's hard for me to gauge what issues you may find with those two together.

I would however, suggest that the Discus may be the unhappy fish in this arrangement, as Discus are much more comfortable in larger groups, at a higher tank temp than recommended for other fish, and have other considerations including their tendency to eat in a slower grazing manner.

I know the discus like groups, but it seems ok. As soon as I get more room, I'll get more + I can't offord many more!
