Just wondering if anybody in Leeds has problems maintaining a stable PH???

The tap water comes out at around 7.3

My 120 community tank has a ph of 7.8

my 60 litre species tank has a ph of 7.0

My 40 litre breeding tub has a ph of 8.0 as does my 60 litre breeding tub (both in cycling - two weeks in), does cycling effect the ph?

I don't like using buffers so of coarse when i do a water change the ph instantly changes which really stresses out the fish, this is a contstant thorn in my side, has anybody had similar problems in Leeds or elsewhere? If so how did you combat it?

In my tank the pH is 7.4

Hi Andy, you might be able to be a massive help to me, do you think you could please answer some questions because i can't seem to figure this out on my own.

what size is your tank? is it heavily planted? what % and how often do you do a water change? do you have a air stone? what type of filter? do you ever get fluctuation? and finally what is your KH and GH?

May thanks for any answered questions.

Hello mate

all this thread tells me is that your pH is all over the place, not necessarily the whole of Leeds!

If you are getting different pH readings everyday from tap then i guess the issue is Leeds wide, failing that it's actually your tanks, probably not related Leeds mate

haha thanks for that info fry lover, i know that yorkshire water have to produce water with a stable PH, i was simply wondering if anybody else in Leeds or any where for that matter has had a similar problem, i find it quite strange that some tanks are going up and some are going down.

I get the same here, tap water generally 7.6 to 7.8 in North London, but most of my tanks run at about 7.4 (even my Malawi tank with loads of ocean rock).

Also, in any event normal pH test kits are not the easiest to read, i mean who knows what the exact figure is?
