Led Lighting

We are currently setting up a new world cichild tank (currently with a single blue acara which we got today). It is a second hand tank which we got from freecycle and unfortunatly it did not have a lid. I have managed to make one out of polycarbonate but we do not have any lighting. The set up is sand with bogwood and rocks (I am trying to keep it as natural as possible). I am also going to skip on the plants for now as I do not want them ripping up. Has anybody used LED lightning as the main form of lighting in a tank? I have seen some on ebay which consist of 120 LED's in a strip but am unsure if a) they are any good and b)if they would light the tank sufficiently. I just thought that seeing as we do not need 60w of electricity beaming down on the tank it might save a bit of money.

I'm really not sure if the L.E.D lighting your talking about would be suitable for growing plants. Yes I'm sure it would light your tank sufficiently as I use 24 blue L.E.D's to light my tank late at night and they really do a good job. My tank I have them on is a 350 ltr. What size tank are we talking about?

I am not putting any plants in it so that is not a problem. It is a three foot long 140l tank (custom made). I guess if 24 is enough to light a 350l then we should be fine.
