So i've got my Tetratec 60l tank, i'm head first into the books researching, but just have a basic question on air supply. My tank came supplied with filter and heater - which was meant to be "everything" i needed. So through reading about it seems that i needed some aeration as well.... So i've purchased a Tetratec pump as well as i assumed the extra oxygen will be important. I'll also be using live plants (more oxygen?). So do I have to leave the pump running continuously? Or can it be on a timer with the lights?

Can wait to get the tank set up..... just trying to build a shelf thats strong enough... hehe.....

air pumps aren't essential. you do need to make sure your water is well oxygenated but a much cheaper and more effective way to do this is to adjust the output of your filter so it breaks the surface of the water.

so as they aren't essential you can definately put them on a timer, or just switch then on and off as you like. I just keep them in a box in the cupboard and if I'm medicating the tank or the weather's really hot then I set it up and run it.

Hi
Until recently i had that tank, its a great set up. The filter will provide enough oxygen as its cascades the water back into the tank. I also ran a bubble wall just cos i like them.
With live plants they use oxygen duribg the night so i would leave the air pump on all the time. Of course the filter should be on 24/7.
hope this helps

Thanks both..... i'll start off without and see how it goes, or maybe set it to timer. At least i know its not essential to have it running ALL the time.

Newtotropical> what fish did you have in your 60l tank? i'm just trying to make a few decisions of what and how many fish i want in there, so i can decorate accordingly...... So any advice appreciated.

Shelf built today, so at last i'm getting somewhere hehe. Maybe i'll get some photo's up here someday when its up and running.... not that it would be anything amazing though!
