Usually the melting starts slowly and eventually all the leaves will probably be affected. I had reservations about trimming it all off, but I did and it grew back in a few weeks. Mine was looking very ugly anyways and most of the leaves were melting. I'm pretty sure that even the healthy leaves will fall off. I use flourite mixed in my gravel, but I don't use root tabs. The flourite should be enough, but it can't hurt to add root tabs. Even if you don't use root tabs, it will grow back on it's own. Just be patient with it.

Add root ferts for sure. Dose about every 3 months or so. You can use Jobes Spikes (Fern & Palm are best- Houseplant ones are next best). Cut them into smaller pieces and use long tweezer to get the fert under the plant- down to the bottom glass- do it in a way that minimizes damaging the roots.

That's interesting, I had no idea you could use houseplant fertilizers for aquatic plants. I will definately try to find them.

As for the trimming, I can try that on the one showing the most damage but I think I will wait until the other is worse off before I decapitate it. I know it will grow back, but I just can't bring myself to do it.

Thanks for all the advice.

Okay, I've got my Jobes plant spikes for lush ferns and palms(16-2-6). How big of a piece do I use? Do I need to put one under each plant or will it work for a larger area?

These things were super cheap BTW. 30 spikes for $1.27. :)

Can I ask where you got them from? Also, what are the other kinds of Jobes plant spikes available for sale, and which is the best for aquatic plants?

Thanks.

I got them from Walmart. There were a few kinds. There was one for houseplants, which was pretty close to the 16-2-6 composition of the fern and palm, and one for flowering plants. According to TwoTank, the one for ferns and palms is best. I've never used them before.

I think I'm going to have to buy some long tweezers or something to get them to the bottom of the tank. I'm still wondering how big of a piece I need to use because a whole one seems like too much.

Thanks for that. I think I'll try some of those when I'm at Walmart next.
