Just wondering, should I be using lead or not for weighing down plants?

I've ordered a collection from Java Plants which includes lead but reading an ebay listing from the Last Trading Post they say lead isn't necessary. So as you can no doubt guess, I'm feeling a little confused!

Thanks for any pointers,

Dan

If lead was neccessary, plants would have evolved to have it.

The roots will hold the plants down fine, lead IMO is not good to use.
Stem plants with no roots grown yet will stay put if planted about 2 inches deep too.

Given that dissolved lead is toxic even to humans, I wouldn't put in my tank.

Also depending on how the lead weight is placed, it could prevent the plant from growing normally.
