Lazy Betta

Hi new to the Forum

I have a ten gallon tank at work with a betta, some zebras and a couple plecostomus, tank been up for 10 months

It a standard tropical setup, with all live plant. The plants are quite thick at the top of the water.

Here's the lazy part. For months the betta routine is to swin into this layer of plants, lay down and sleep there for hours, never moving. He also does this in the ship on the bottom, he enters to hole and lays down, sometimes on his side. He only comes out of the plants or the ship, if someone opens the lid on the tank. BTW, he does chase the other fish either.

NOW IS THAT WEIRD or normal?

Pretty new to bettas myself but I think thats pretty normal. Not all bettas are active fish. But also on the other hand are you sure the zebras aren't harrassing him? x

I would say it's one of 2 things
Either he's pretty lazy, I have a betta like that
Or he's scared of the danios, which is likely, they are fin nippers so he might be hiding
Experiment by removing the danios and see what happens x

I never seen the zebras even come close to him. Actual King Ricky Bobby the Betta was in the tank prior to the zebras and at first was aggresive towards them. He would chase them and inflate his gills at them. It seems as soon as the plant filled the the top of the tank it started, maybe he is just that "lazy OF a fish".

my betta isnt lazy he swims around all day long just stopping for a breather every now and again. he doesnt get pestered by my cardinal tetras but he does chase them now and again, i think he does it for fun because even when he is close to them he doesnt bite. from what i have learnt from other people about bettas is that no two are the same, they all have different personalities. so if the water is good and he isnt being picked on maybe he is just a lazy fish!

wanter tamp is ok they prefer 80-82 , but if it gets low (under 75F) then they get lazy.

Yeah make sure the temp. is okay, or maybe he is just lazy!

and what types of plecos?

btw theres a myth that saying the full word of pleco______ will cause it to die. so everyone calls them plecs or plecos.
