If the USA had such laws there might not be oscars swiiming rampantly all over florida and other southern states, snakeheads would have NEVER been a problem to say the least.

The USA is a mess with morons dumping unwanted fish into lakes & streams. Too bad we dont have a stopgap in place BEFORE they ever buy such fish.

I think it was on this forum where I read another article taken from the PFK magazine where some guy who owned two fish of Chinese extraction (forget the name) applied to the CEFAS for a licence and was refused. The fish had been given to him as a present and he had no idea that they required a licence. When he applied he was refused, he applied again stating his circumstance and was promptly refused again. The CEFAS officer arrived at his house later that week, removed the fish and destroyed them. This guy stated that he was an avid hobbyist and understood the environmental hazards associated with the release of non-indigenous species and they still killed his fish.

Go figure, the guy tries to stay on the right side of the law and he gets his fish taken from him. Dam The Man!!!!

Between you and I, mammafish. I have two illegal aliens species in my cold water tank, I wasn’t aware of the fact they where illegal before I bought them from the “lawbreaking” LFS. But one thing is for sure I am not going to ask for a licence, I like my fish alive. I know this sounds stubborn and arrogant, rules are put in place for a good reason (like the Oscar problem in Florida that you mentioned) but I know how to take care of my fish and how to prevent these problem from occuring. In this case I think prevention is better than cure, ie. They should stop the LFS from selling the fish and not tour the country destroying peoples loved pets.

I agree with you 100% infact I might go so far as letting the CEFAS know about the LFS that sold you those fish, just mention you saw the fish in the store, sure this may seem Narcish but if they import illegal fish what else unsavory things are they willing to do? If we as hobbyest must obey why not the LFS?
