I really like a bargain, and most of my tanks are either rescued from being destroyed or thrown out.

I advertise locally every now and then for tanks (to give away to friends/family) and recently took a call from someone who had lost interest in their 30" x 18" x 18" tank.

Was told I could take it away, but did I mind taking a couple of inhabitants with it.

Tank was dirty, dark and needed some tlc....inhabitants were in a bucket ready to go (water was v.dirty, couldn't really see what I was reaching for when I transferred the critter).

Anyhoo...everything back to my house, gained one Kissing Gourami (now in my community tank) and one of these:

Thanks, I'll try to get some tank shots to give an idea of scale...he's around 8 inches long, not including claws.

How long have you had it then?

Sorry Ralphy, missed your post...we've had him about 7 months now...I don't know how old he is, but he looks fully grown. He has shed once since we've had him.

I'd love a blue crayfish! Sadly I stocked my tank a little too quickly and now cant get one as it would eat everything! Do you have any fish in the tank with him?

I have kept these before, but they ate pretty much anything that I dared to put in with them. Even larger fish I thought would be tough enough got whacked when they were docile, and inactive (at night, for example)

Ended up keeping her in a separate tank in the living room, and my GF loved her a lot!

I keep red clawed electric blue with a chocolate cichlid,bycron sp and a bristlenose plec... got worried when i kept him with colombian tetra/spiney eel and senegal birchir, he never did anything,kept them together for two months fine,

When we got him, he was in with a kissing Gourami....but to be honest the water was so murky I am surprised either saw the other.

I was thinking of putting a Brislenose in with him, but I reckon he would snip it in half
