It is worth the effort is it not? Can you not get very fine gravel at any local fish shops? Or even play sand? I suggest you make the effort or your cory will have a bad quality of life or even die as they are quite sensitive little cats.

well cories are my favourite kind of fish and no I CANNOT GET ANY KIND OF SAND EXCEPT FOR TAHITIAN MOON SAND.....which is the main problem, i have serched before, because not only because i want my cories to have a better life but also i prefere sand over gravel in looks, but i just cant get and sand, and even if i did, i beleive cleaning will be a problem

not only that but i just found out my cory also has paracite?? u know when there is like blood under it's fin??

i will buy medicine asap to cure it, i have no idea what is going on to the tank, the problem started al when i brought the 3 new cories :(

Bad luck :( I still think you should consider changing to a smaller substrate. It doesnt have to be sand. I use 3-4mm natural colour gravel in most of my tanks and all the catfish seem to love it.

as already stated the smaller the gravel the better it is for all know catfish types.

do you have any d.i.y shops around your end?
to say that you can only find one type of sand seems pretty weird.. try all d.i.y shops for play sand.

cleaning play sand is just like cleaning gravel/ normal sand.. all you have to do is fill the bucket half way with sand, rinse it well (whilst stiring it) roughly 4 times and place it into ur tank... it couldnt get any simpler honestly.
with the size of the gravel you have got.. its a wonder it hasnt happened sooner, i understand how attached you become to catfish.. thats why my 40 was mainly a catfish tank... but if you cant do somthin about ur gravel.. then i wouldnt keep them.

sorry to hear about ur loss :byebye:

well tomorow i will go and check out more stores, but i am really sad, out of all my fish this one was the oldest and biggest, and he was so cute too..i will not make the same mistake twice, i was gonna get a 55 gallon soon too and add more cories :-(

one of my otehr problem is my filter, i'll have to change it, or else it will clog my hob filter... :(

Surely its not likely that the substrate causes the problem if only one is affected?

Is there any fine gravel in your lfs? I use fine gravel about this big: _ and when I had cories, they seemed fine with it.
