Fish Fanatic
I remember when I bought the Redtail Catfish roughly more than a year ago, it was 3 inch long. It just cost me $3. That time I just a newbie in this hobby. I have join the Fishforum at the same time & learn how to keep my tank in good condition especially tank cycling. Actually Redtail catfish is not my first fishes. I'm started get an aquarium in June 2013 with my first fish was Albino Bichir.
While excited with the fishkeeping, I have different interest which is more prefer to the wild & predator fish. No wonder I bought Arapaima Gigas a month after the Redtail catfish. It was just 6-7 inch long. Yeah, I know I need to find a big tank to keep these monsters.
Thank god, during moving to the new house, I manage to build a 8ft X 2.5ft X2.5ft tank at the end of the 2013.
Month after month, the fish become bigger. When I measure in June 2014, Arapaima Gigas reach to 18inch meanwhile the Redtail Catfish already 7-8inch. I need to provide more foods in a day. During the growning, they become wild & the interesting was when the feeding time. They will come u to the surface waiting for the foods. At the time, I also interested to keep other type of fishes but it was impossible to put it in 1 tank with Arapaima & Redtail.
Come November, I get the size of the fish & found out the Arapaima growth to 2ft & the Redtail more than 1ft long. So with very hard decision, I decided to release the fish.
I put the pictures online for selling but very hard to find a buyer. So I contact some aquarium shops and offer them. On Jan 11, 2014, it was my last day with my Arapaima Gigas & the Redtail Catfish. I had to measure the size of the fish before it is pass to the aquarium shop. Arapaima has 30inch & Redtail 24inch. Here some photos during my last day with my favorite monster fish.
Now, I moving on with 1 of the Non-Bony fishes. I want to get some experience with this fish.
Enjoy ;-)
