I've become frustrated by the size (and stock limitations) of my 20UKG. Instead of getting another, larger tank first - and poss. being frustrated again - I've decided to do it the other way round... below is a list of the type and quantity of fish I'd ideally like - how I see them 'filling' the water layers - and my proposed tank set up...

What size tank should I consider - allowing for growth/swimming space etc? I've had my eye on the Hagen/Fluval 'Duo 1200 Deep' set up: 4ft and approx. 45UKG/216L, which includes a Tronic 300w heater and a Fluval 4 Plus internal filter (I currently have smaller Tronic and Fluval units and am pleased with them)...

6 x Cherry Barbs (all layers)

4 x Odessa Barbs (all layers)

10 x Silver Tip Tetras (all layers)

6 x Sterbae Corydoras (bottom/middle)

2 x Bristlenose Plecs (bottom/middle/algae control)

6 x Marble Hatchets (top layer)

3 x YoYo loaches (bottom/middle/small snail eaters)

Total: 37 fish

Substrate: Silica sand over a Laterite granual/2-3mm natural gravel base layer.

Plants - pretty standard: straight and twisted Vallis at the back and sides; Amazon Frogbit for the surface and some kind of small clover as a 'carpet' plant. There will be natural slate rock/pieces in there and established Java Fern and Java Moss growing on bogwood (for caves/hidy holes etc).

Any opinions on the suitability of keeping the above fish together would also be appreciated...

High ,
Just to say i have a juwel rio 125 l tank and am looking to get a bigger tank , this is a very interesting thread and i will keep a close eye on it if thats ok with you
:)

You'd be better looking at the Juwel rio 300 - also a four foot tank but twice the volume. The Rio 240 would be pushed with that stock list & the fluval 1200 is too small.
