Still working out the eventual stocking for my 240l and saw some Pearl and Three Spot Gourami at my LFS. I thought they'd look nice in my tank but wanted to check that they'll get on with the other probable residents.

At the moment I've decided on some Cardinal Tetras and some Corys (don't get me started on which ones, I just can't make my mind up!) and a Plec of some kind.

Will these kind of Gourami play nice and how many could I expect to keep in a tank this size?

I have 2 male Opaline Gourami a morph of the blue 3 spot in a 180 litre along with 10 Cardinal Tetra, 4 Zebra Loach and a Bristlenose pleco and everyone gets on fine.

I use to have 3 Opalines but they would pick on the smallest one so I removed him as the other 2 like to have half a tank each. You make have more luch with more than 2 Males as your tank is longer than mine. Just make sure you give them enough places to hide from each other.

If you Have a mix of males and females stocking is 1m to 2f.

I have Pearl Gourami pair with a single Opaline female in a 36 gallon and they get along pretty good. The Opaline is largest & she's the boss right now anyway.

If I could do it all again I'd get all Pearls because they're much more docile. A single male & 3 or 4 females would make a great setup. Another option since your tank is fairly large would be 1 male Pearl, 2 female Pearls, 1 female Opaqline & 1 feamle Gold.

From my experience, the Three Spot Gouramis like Opalines, Golds, Blues, etc. are all much more aggressive than the Pearls, including male Pearls. I want a tank that relaxes me, not stesses me out with which fish is chasing which fish.

I had a 3 spot in with my cardinals and after a few weeks it got really aggressive to the point I got it rehomed.
Got given a Gold too exactly the same .
Maybe its just me but Gourami that I have kept get a bit larger they turn really nasty. :(
Dwarfs are fine though.

Dwarfs are cool but they can have an attitude too. I prefer the Pearls for the more graceful way they swim. With good lighting they are stunning to look at too.

He could get 2 Dwarf males & 4 Dwarf females with all that room.

I have a pair of pearls myself. They pretty much ignore the tank mates (smaller livebearers) and are very peaceful even towards each other. Gorgeous to look at!

Pearl Gouramis rule! B-)

I have to admit that I am leaning towards the pearls. Maybe a male and 2 females. Just wish my cycle would get going!

In my opinion they are the perfect fish. Post pics when you get them.
