I'm getting a new 6'x1.5'x2' tank and would like a some ideas on what type of large(ish) fish to put in it.

I kept most stuff in the past, but now have stipulations on what to keep.

ie :

a. 6-8"
b. Schooling fish.
c. Very peaceful.
d. Colourful and pretty.
e: Not 'nippy', 'bitey' or 'mean looking'.
f: Not timid.

Yes, this is to please the missus...

Anyone have any ideas?

yeah its kind of hard for non-aggresives. would you think about bichirs or a bgk? those are not very aggresive i think except for the bichirs unless they are kept with limilarly sized or bigger fish.

I saw a huge tinfoil barb (characin) at a sushi bar once. He wasn't very colorful, but very shiny and peaceful. Silver dollars are cool too. :)

Maybe some type of a Rainbow fish, they are not "big" but they fit all of your suggested qualifications.

I know that you want somthing a little on the small side, but I like the big guys... I think mabye an oscar.

you want a show fish?
have you ever thought about discus?
you could keep a school in a tank that big.
bgk's can get a little aggressive when older but do look great!

are you plannin on keeping just one species on its own? or one species with more of its own species? or one big species with other species?

I would get a male pearl gourami and a whole harem of females for him. Can't get more elegant than that- should please your missus. This is always on the assumption that you keep nothing else that could stress the pearls.

Or else, a school of rainbows as has already been said.

Hi guys,

I have 4 tanks at the mo,

1. Aqua 620T Community with : platy's, swordtails, apisto's, assorted tetras (baby Mbu puffer - will explain later!)
2. Single Mbu in a temp tank.
3. jewel Vision 260 with 5x angels, 2x humphead perchlets, 6x clown loaches, 5x rams, 3x Bolivian rams, 3x glass catfish, 6x cory's,
4x Canara pearlspot cichlids, a royal plec and a Panda garra.
4. Small fry tank with platy fry and baby corys.

Let me explain about the baby Mbu in the Missus's community tank. One day we saw (her?) all bitten and badly chewed in a
dealers tank and took pity on her. We took her home and housed in the tank temporarily, we hand fed her the best chosen
foods beginning with a 5mm sized meal a day at a time and now she has recovered nicely but still has a stub for an adipose fin
where something had biten too big a chunk out of her back.

At first we thought because she had no fins left and was all chewed she just swirled around the dealers tank crashing into everything.
But it turns out she is blind as well... :-(

So she now happily glides around with the platys and such and feeding really well and full of colour

She is too big to be pushed around, yet so gentle the other fish steal food from her.

Maybe the only MBU in a colourful, busy little community setup.

B)

Been looking at fish today, saw some huge Tinfoils and lemon barbs.

I've had a rainbow only setup before, had 20 something mix (some wild caught too).
Oscars - love them, I,d have a breeding pair if I could. :(
Gouramy's - Had a pink giant until recently ate the rest of his tankmates and therefore had to go... :X

If I had my way I'd have it full of Siamese Tiger Fish, just saw some 1cm babies for sale £20 for 3... :D

Silver Dollars - Hmmm! Now thats got me thinking, i'm not gonna have any plants in it anyway.

Still stumped, I will have to look harder...

its around 130g, so imo you could do somethin like this

DECOR

Sand
Loads of Bogwood
Loads and Loads of Plants

STOCKING

8 Discus (come in all colours for a range of colours look here Sunrise Tropicals
about 10 Corys
1 BKG (great discus tankmates)
20 black tetras

What about a shark like a silver shark. They are now aggresive and grow to about 30cm. Otherwise i would suggest a big shoal of cardinals as they look stunning in a shoal of 30-50.
