feels like we've been deliberating forever over what to do with our 30g, well we went to maidenhead aquatics today and saw some Lamprologus sp. "daffodil" I thought I recognised the name from when we were researching shell dwellers the other day (I was wrong) and we really liked them. So we've come back and done a bit of research, going to look around a bit more this week and get the tank prepared (it's already mature, with other occupants, shortly to be re-homed) looks like we need lots of plants and rocks and hiding places for them, the ph is currently 7.2 in that tank which is the v bottom end of what they're happy in, so we'll just put a teeny bit of tuffa rock or something like that in, crank it up a little bit this week, but all in all they're looking like a very likely candidate........... so I was just wondering if anyone has any experience keeping them and has any comments or tips? :D

Thanks

I think that they lke dimmed light and youll need some hardy plants.

yeah read somewhere they like floating plants to keep the light down, the lighting in that tank is p1ss poor though, we were going to upgrade it but I think we'll just leave it as is and hopefully it'll be fine. If they seem distressed with the lights on we'll have to reconsider floating plants though.

Yup hardy plants cos they need a high ph..... that's Ian's field of expertise, I keep out of the plants side of things, not got a clue. He knows what's going in there though apparently :)

yeah that's what I'm saying..... hopefully the lighting levels will be OK as they are, if not and I've underestimated the lights then I'll get floating plants or some way of getting less light :)

i`m going to build loads of caves for the tank so they have some where to hide if the light does get too much, but i think it works out at less than 1 wpg plus there is plenty already plenty of plants in the tank

and a couple of Altolamprologus compressiceps to keep a lid on the fry!

Are they different from lelupi? How so? I've been planning a tank for them for years it seems- but never quite got there
