Ok, so for a lake tanganyika setup, I'm using a sand substrate and a lot of rocky caves, cliffs, etc. but I was wondering if they would like some fake plants, or is that just gonna tick em off? I couldn't find if lake tanganyika biotypes included plants or not .... any help?

There biotopes don't have plants, but if you like them the fish will be fine with them. The diggers will inadvertantly dig them up, but planted tang setups have been successfully done.

Well lets see.........Tanginiyaka is desolate, rocky and the only major plant growth is a large algal growth in the rocks that the cichlids graze on. However, i cant see a few false lants driving them totally doodle lally! At the end of the day its got to be more interestin for them (and yourself) instead "hey bob, look theres a rock! and another one! oh wait......and another......i think i see a pattern here"

As far as diggins concerned, you can attatch the fake plants to a saucer with a suitable non toxic adhesive (such as miliput) and then bury the saucer under the gravel. This will then weigh far too much for anything bar the larger to cichlids such as frontosas to move!

It is interesting though to watch juvie birchardiis trying to "graze" on a fake plant :shifty:
