ive decided to go onto lake malawi and lake tanginica as i am getting a new tank what is needed for these fish and what plants can you get -_-

well i have a 6foot by 2 by 2 which is full oftropical fish which i have for 4 years and i want some thing a bit more intrestining
thanks for the help

African Cichlids are way too agressive for the average community tank. If you decide to add in cichlids, your other fish will be killed.

Because you have had fish for so long, I'm assuming you know all about cycling, etc. In general, cichlids like a sandy substrate, and will tear up almost every plant in your aquarium. I know there is a mess of info to sort through at the beginning. I think I spent a good week researching and was totally confused for the first part of it. Just ask questions, There are some great people on here who have a ton of knowlege.

Thats a huge tank but they are just too many options for us to help you with it first you would have to decide what types of cichlids to do. At that size a malawi predator tank might be nice, or a frontosa harem. But there are literaly hundreds of cichlids you could try. But it is best to stay with one group. such as malawi mbuna, or peacocks, or haps. Then in lake tangyika there are several more options again. The tank would work best if you only had fish from one of these groups due to habitat, diet, and agresion, though you can mix carefully if you are determined. So do a bit more research and see what your intrested in we can help you from there

Plants are very limited, the cichlids tend to dig them up, or eat them but anubias' and java fern tend to do well in most tanks

Edit- I was thinking this for the 6 footer ---not really sure what your asking

malawi perotory tank sounds intereting but ill get a bit more experince and try to breeb them before any thing eles thanks

If you want to breed cichlids you could get a mbuna tank with yellow labs which are pretty easy to breed and not that agressive. Or if you don't want a challenge at all you could get a convcit cichlids which are really agressive and extremely easy to breed

You want plants? If you're up for a little fingerwork, go to www.cichlid-forum.com. Got to 'Your Tanks' in the menu. Click on 'Tanks by owner' and then scroll down to the member 'Fogelhund'. What you're looking at is some long term successful planted African cichlid aquaria.
