Ladder Diffuser

I have been using a ladder diffuser for a couple of weeks now. It had been working perfectly.

Suddenly the bubble will no longer track? I havent made any changes...flow, position, ect

I fiddled around with it for about 30 minutes before I finally gave up.

Any suggestions to get me back on track?

I believe that if muck or thin layer of algae build up it can stop them from moving freely. If possible, wipe the "ladders" with a clean cloth (that hasn't been used with household chemicals)

My messing around with it seemed to have done something because this morning things are back to normal.

But, next maintenance I will give it a good wipe down.
