Hi,

A few weeks ago we bought a pair of kribensis and put them in our main 125L tank. On wednesday morning i noticed that they had some babies.
They got super protective and really started to chase off our other fish. we decided to move them to a spare tank we had. as it was empty we ised the water from our main tank to fill the 40L tank and stocked it with fresht plants. it was a bit of a fight trying to get them kut of the main tank and managed to save 6 babies.

they seemed so stressed after we moved them bit the next morning(friday) they seemed to be alot calmer. Today they seem very lethargic and havent eaten. the female has just been laying on the sand looking a bit worse for wear and the male has been hiding away. all babies still fine.

Did all tests

amm: .25
nitrite: .25
Nitrate: 5.0

Tried feeding them some blood worms but they just watched them float passed. :(

Any ideas would be appreciated..

Have you put some of the media from your established tank into the new filter or just the water (which won't really do anything)? It takes around 6 weeks for a filter to cycle properly, until then you are putting your fish at risk. Do a huge water change to bring the levels down and swap over up to a third of the media from your old filter ASAP.

No my hubby said he didnt think of about changing the media..he is doing it right now! Thanks for your help.. Hope it helps

No problem, I am sure they will be much happier now'

Well this morning mrs krib looks a bit worse for wear. i found her upside down on the bottom she moves sometimes but it doesnt loook good. mr krib seems ok but dont know what will happen.. i just did a partial water change so will see what happens over the day.. all babies are ok. it make you wonder as you would of thought theh would of died if there was a problem?!

Mrs krib is now floating about in the current like cant control balance! Not good

Ammonia poisoning isn't a quick death - it would take more time than this to kill them but it will happen eventually. Daily large water changes as often as you can manage is the only way forward now you have put in the mature media, you just have to wait for the bacteria to multiply.

Ok so mrs krib didnt make it. just did water test nitrate is 10 nitrite is 0 ammonia is still 0.25.

P.h is 7.6 which is the same

Keep up with the water changes... Don't know what else you can do really. Sorry for your loss.

Yeah..it was sad.. well we still have the babies and we moved mr krib back into the big tank n he seems loads better!
Thanks for your help we both appreciate it..
