Hi we currently have a 180l tank with lots of plants and bogwood and a few hiding places (including a nice slate cave which I made). Fish wise, we have Dwarf Gourami, Neon Tetra, Butterfly Hillstream Loaches, Zebra Danio and Corydoras. GF wants to get a m/f pair of Kribs. From experience, would a pair be suitable in our tank?

what temperature is your tank set at?? hillstream loaches usually like it sub tropical about 68ºF to 74ºF(20-23°C)

whereas the rest of your fish would prefer it at 26 i guess

I would say not. Kribensis are very fast fish and should be paired with equally fast fish. The corydoras and the dwarf gourami would be the biggest concern IMO. Kribs also get 3-4" so and have big mouths so if they could catch a neon, they may very well eat it whether it be intentionally or accidentally. The danios and would be just fine. I'm not too sure about the loaches, I've had no personal experience with their behaviour.

Temp is set at 25 degrees but the Hillstreams are doing just fine and are very often seen gliding through the tank and eat like troopers. Infact, they have grown quite a lot recently. If that is the case I do not want to harm anyone so I might get some balloon rams instead.

I don't think kribs would be a problem in your tank. I have a mated pair and they just ignore my corys. As for the neons, unless they are ridiculously small they will not get eaten. However if you are in doubt don't do it.

I have got a breeding pair of kribs in my tank at the moment and they are fine! When laying eggs they tend to get quite protective but apart from that they don't seem to be causing any problems at all! I have currently got tetras (small and big) plus guppies and shrimps, all of which have not been touched by the Kribs. As long as you keep them well fed they shouldn't go looking for trouble!

Thanks the the replies. I forgot to add that we actually have Black Neon Tetras, so slightly bulkier than Neons. We decided to get a pair of Kribs today and they are doing fine. The colours are fantastic and they seem to be getting on well with everyone else :good:
