do i just choose the best looking M and F in the shops tanks?
do i need 2 pairs?
what do i do ?

also ive read they need a hole/cave, do they prefer a wood or rock cave?

Okay. how old is the tank? WHat method of cycling did you use? What are the tank stats? How big is the tank? the pair ratios is 1m/1f. Depending on the size of your gtank, you could have 2. Also, they would defo prefer a wood structure and a rock structure to chose from. Most people will make a cave outta coconut shells and terracotta pots. They will do best with many caves so they can pick. You want the biggest, most colorful female and the biggest male.

Well i dont quite know what you mean by howi m cycling, ill just be putting all my old water from my tank know into my new tank and filter, the tank will be 4ft long by 15" back by 18" high, i only really wanted 1 pair but a breeding pair as im hoping for a variety of fish,
Also would they be ok with a black knfie fish? the knfie is VERY tame and would not attack fish, it even swims round the tank in broad daylight,

Is the filter new? Did you use the old filter media? is? Knife fish need HUGE tanks and when they get big they will attack, they are predators, they cant help it. Your tank isnt big enough. From what i;ve read they need a 75g tank, and they will kill and eat the kribs, and there babies. I would seriously recommend rehomeing the guy. You could easily fit 2 maybe 3 pairs of kirbs in that tank, and fill it up with community fish.
