I posted about my krib which was sold to me as a male but I think is a female. Most people thought that it was male (but it had very little colour due to the stress of the other krib bullying it). So here's a pic of it in full colour, I just want to make sure it is female before i return it and possibly look stupid!

So vote.. M or F...??

Thanks :good:

I would say female, only because the dorsal fin doesn't stretch back to the tip of the tail fin. But I am no expert, only kept kribs once about 2 years ago :good:

Oh no  I have to take her back to the fish shop which was like an hour away! You'd think that if i think it's a female after keeping fish for only 3 months the person who WORKS in the fish shop should know!!

that's definitely a female.

here's a list of distinguishing features of a female krib:

1. rounded dorsal fin
2. stouter, more compressed body
3. more yellow coloration on the head
4. rounded pelvic fins
5. rounded caudal fin
6. shorter maximum length (2.5-3") compared to males (3.5-4")
7. redder belly than the male's

To add to that females usually have a more distinguishing 'eye' spot and a more rounded off face. :good:

Ok so I just bought a male (this one's definitely a male) but he was in a pretty bad state at the fish shop (pets at home) so I'll have to see if he pulls through. Thanks for the advice because now i'm sure I have a pair :)

sad to hear, PAH suck, and it seems as though its not just one or two of them, but the majority, which is worrying. But cichlids are pretty hardy. glad you got a male finally.

I hope so, he's at the bottom of the tank not moving. He was gasping but seems to have stopped this now so i'm hoping it's stressed. He's in a QT at the moment.

I just don't think that was a very good pic. I posted the above pic which was slightly better and everyone seems to agree female. I think so too esp. now that i have a definite male, they look totally different. Will post the pic of my male when (if) he perks up a bit!

On the second pic the "male" on the right is the same fish as the one at the top that everyone is saying is def. female! I'm sure she's a she now anyway as I have got a male and they look totally different. I'm taking her back to my LFS today :( hope she gets a nice new home!

I just re-looked at the second pic and saw that i was wrong. It does have a slighlty deeper belly than a male and it's pelvic fin's are shorter adn have some purple on them. SOrry! I just looked and saw a feamle and then saw sometihng that looked like a male.
