Hey i got 2 kribs 1 male and 1 female...
just want to no ..

1. how do u no when the female krib is ready for spawning.

2.do u have to take the young away from there parents at a certain age.

Boy your going to have fun.

As your asking questions, I presuming you don't know a great deal about kribs.

Make them some caves (mine have 4) out of coconum shells cut in half and then make them an opening.

They will choose there home and when the female is ready her belly goes bright pink. They will shake in front of each other as well. When they have laid their eggs they will defend the area. Once fry are born, the parents will take them on excursions around the tank.

One point though, what other fish do you have in the tank, as they will need chaser fish otherwise they will turn on each other.

They are excellent parents, and you don't need to take the fry away until they are ready to spawn again.

They are excellent fish to watch breed.

Hope it helps.

Oh dear i only have a featherfin catfish with them :S and have 2 caves at the moment.

is it right that i should have my tank light of and dont look for the eggs otherwise the kribs will eat them? ... some one told me

I don't think so, my kribs spawned in a community, but the babies were killed when I stupidly rearranged some stuff, my female was killed soon after. Only cos she was smaller than the male. I have heard it is best if you buy the female earlier, so she knows where to hide from the boisterous male, and also to have a bigger female or caves that only the female can get in to

I think that your tank is fine, dunno where you got the chaser fish idea, but I have never heard of it, all that happened in my community was that the female and male guarded the fry whilst lunging at anything else.

Another thing is I didn't actually notice they bred, the first sign is the female disappearing, then after a few days, herding around a little cloud

Good on you for asking questions :good:

thnx the last question ... do i have to leave the light of while they spawn or can it be on?

How big is the tank they're in.. they can get pretty aggressive while spawning.. I've had males kill females, and females kill males while spawning.. I had them in a small tank though.

you have a 2 foot 55g tank?... never heard of that before..

anyways, if you leave both parents in with the fry they will probably eat their first few batches.. I've had some luck removing only one parent once the fry are born..
