Hi, i wanna breed kribs in a 60l tetra aquarium, im really experianced in breeding mollies & bettas so i think i could breed kribs at ease.I have a male in my 240 l juwel rio, I know the basics about keeping them but I haven't got as far as breeding them yet so i have questions to ask.

1) How many can be kept in a 60l tetra aquarium?

2) Is their a ratio in breeding them female to male like it should be 3:1 in mollies? ( to stop dominancy)

3) Would regular gravel, some plants & some half buried ceramic pots (for caves) be a good tank setup for breeding these fish?

4) Would a Elite Stingray Filter 15 suck up fry?

5) Do other kribs eat others fry?

6) What is the best tempreture in celcius for breeding kribs?

7)What food is best for them when breeding? (name & brand please)

8)Are they easy to keep? (water chemistry wise)

9) Do parents of the fish look after the fry well and work equally the same?

10)how often and how much should i change the water?

thanks i hope i can breed them!! :good:

1) 2 Kribs.

2) 1m/1f

3) Regular gravel, as in small enough mfor them to dig pit's, then yes. They need alot of caves.

4) The filter shouldn't, but as a precaution you can put a filter sponge over the intake.

5) The kribs will not eat thier fry. But, if there are other kribs fry in there, they will eat them.

6) 29C should work

7) Anything high in Protien is good. So, go to the store, look in flake foods for something with 50 percent protien or more. Then look int he freeze dried area, and look for Mysis Shrimp( 60 % protien).

8) They are easy to keep. As long as your NitrAtes don't get unreasonably high, they should be fine. They prefer a more nuetral Ph, but i'vve breed them in a Ph of 8.4

9) The male will guard the territory, and the female will do most of the looking after.

10) If you want t encourage breeding, everyday( 20 percent, or more). If you just want to see if they will breed on thier own w/o help, 40 percent once a week.

In that size tank, do not have anything else in there but the kribs.

is it certain that they will pair up?!!

It is very, very common. If you'd like, you can get 1 male, and 3 females. And wait and see which female gets paired up with. Then return the other females.

Depending on if you keep the fry with them. If you remove the fry and put them in a different tank, they may breed every 2 weeks, or less. But, if you leave the fry with them, they may breed every 2 months.

thats good cause i got an other tank which they can go in :D

Great, sounds good!

what age will fry be until they get to adulthood & what age will fry be when they start to eat other fry just like the way im putting them into another tank and they will probably breed every 2 weeks

sorry for askin ya so many questions just need to know. Thanks sooooooo much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure why you would want them to breed en masse. I find the fry grow pretty slowly compared to some others. They don't seem like a great fish to have in any real numbers so you will need an outlet to dispose of the fry as they breed or you may end up with a lot fighting as they get bigger. It may not be as bad if you have a lot, I have typically had about 4-6 together and I quickly learned that 2 is company and more is trouble. They seem to breed in any reasonable conditions and encouragement isn't needed. They are ideal for lazy owners who don't want to put in any effort. Maybe thats why I can breed these guys!

what im planning to do is:

put 1 male/1 female in the 60l
breed
put the fry into the other tank (which has no other fish in it)
wait until they get older and then sell them to the shop or put some in my 240l,
simple as that!

I would make sure your shop will buy them from you first. The fry reach sellable age at about 3-4 months, depending on what you feed them. They sell at about an inch( 2.5 cm). Fry won't hit adulthood for maybe 9 months or more. The fry shouldnt eat eachother. It isnt that common.

and if you are anywhere near chester I have about 30+ adult & juviniles 1.5-3"
