Kkaannee's Juwel Rio 300 - Upgrade

I find that the green ones are a bit patchy in colour which is a shame.

Yes they are like a pack of dogs or something in the tank, i had odessa and gold barbs for a bit when i first got this tank so fancied going back to barbs, bit more lively. Now im going to get 6 orig. tigers tomorrow i think, now ive just got to decide on my other stocking

6 x alb. tiger barbs
6 x tiger barbs
10 x mix tetra (hoping to rehome but i cannot catch them - any tips?)
1 x bn (finally getting his bristles!)
3 x amano shrimp

When i was browsing in the lfs i did notice they always have reallly colourful kribs, and after researching a bit it seems they will be a good mix, opinions?

nice vid!!

I love to see vids of tanks, this shows how they work in real life. Nice layout too.

Thanks Ian, i know what you mean about vids, got my new iphone now so will probably carry on with the vids

Maybe you could advise on a mid plant as the problem I have with my scape is that I have tall vallis and then tiny sag, im havin trouble deciding on something to go in between...

Can you remind us about your lighting, substrate and ferts regime? There are many smaller crypts that make for nice midground plants. I would look for something with a different leafshape than the vallis and sag, something more roundish.

I agree, something not straight lol

300L
2 t8 39w
1"- 3" Play Sand with API root tabs
No ferts other than tabs

I'd grab some crypts mate or even some of the medium sized Swords maybe, a red melon would look good in there.

I am thinking of crypts, im just rubbish with swords though! :(

What about c. moehlmanni, affinis or pontederiifolia? They have rounder leaves. Some anubia barteri would be nice too; with enough fish these plants do not need ferts.

Im definitely gonna get some more anubias, ive got one barteri which ive now moxed in with the rocks, when i get some it will probably go in my 20L to get it going though

Anyone know how to grow it out of water? Or do the leaves go too big and weird?

Crypt Moehamannii, Bullosa or Undulata ?
I've seen all 3 in decent MA, LFS'

My LFS is rubbish for crypts, all I ever find is wendtii and willisii! May have to be online, will look into them :good:

I went to the LFS on Sunday and picked up 4 normal tiger barbs, I paid for 5 (plus you get 6 for 5) so have to pick up 2 more later in the week as they had no more left.

Went to the lfs yest to pick up my 2 tigers, they are tiny!

Also got two bunches of java fern microsorum, one bunch narrow leaf. Ive sort of plugged them into the wood as it was looking a bit bare, i also picked up another bag of sand today as I want to build up the area around the base of the wood so it looks a bit islandy...

Still want to build up more but i have to be careful as there is a lot of vals and sag which I dont want to bury.. ( sorry for reflections!)

Also once satisfied thinking about dropping handfuls of gravel around the base of the wood too
