i've convinced the missus i need a quarantine tank. The only hitch is that i have so little space in my house the only space i can find is in our relatively small kitchen, it would be replacing the lcd tv much to her annoyance!

with all the extra heat and appliances like microwaves and fridges, is a tank in the kitchen a good idea even if it is temporary? obviously i'm not going to have it next to the hob (although i do like a good fish soup.) :p

any thoughts?

I have the same problem with the space, and have used my kitchen for a hospital / quarantine tank. Should be fine, just make sure you have a lid on the tank so any smoke or oil from cooking doesn't drift onto the surface of the water. That would probably be a bigger killer than the heat.

and conversely, make sure the fish water doesn't get near your food preparing area!

or ur wife near the fish with a pan

also i think u would have to cut fish out ur diet as it would traumatise ur fish seeing felow fish cooked

Mines been in the kitchen ever since it was setup about 5 months ago, and the one before that, and the one before that. I've had no problems!

All my three tanks are in the kitchen, lol.
Tell your wife that the fish are more interesting to watch than the tv, lol.

I think you should have no problems with a tank in the kithchen, should provide more entertainment for the cook just as long as the cook doesnt get any new fish recipes ;)

we have a 75gl in the kitchen have never had a problem. Only thing is that room gets a lot of light in our house, so tank cleaning is must on a regular basis. Great conversation piece for company.

Sorry to hijack the thread. Is it ok to have a heater virtually right beside a tv and dvd player? Is there any radiation or anything that could hurt the fish? Thanks in advance.

should be fine as long as you'r able to maintain a relativley even temparuature in your kitchen, i know some people's who's heat up like a sauna, if this is the case maybe consider getting a chiller as well as a heater so your tank can maintain it's ambient temparature whatever the temp in the kitchen. but as long as your kitchen doesn't get ridiculously hot i wouldn't see it being a problem. if your worried get a thermometer and leave it in the kitchen for a few weeks, record the temp at different times and see if it gets too high at any time :)

it was radiation from the microwave that concerned me more than maintenance and heat issues really as these can be controlled. as the tank is intended as a fry tank, i'm going to find room in the bedroom, much the missus' disgust.

My Betta breeding tank is on the top of my fridge right now. And I dont have any problems with radition or anything like that
Mind you I am running out of room for tanks as well Not that I will ever admitt that to my fiancee lol
