Kissing Gourami Has Swollen Face

I've had my 2 kissing gouramis for a while now, one of them is growing steadily but the other one has stayed small. The last few days it's been getting really thin, although it does eat. Today I noticed that it's face around the mouth area is rounded, maybe swollen. Has anyone seen this before and what can i do?

Sounds like to me that the gouramis wasn't healty when you bought them.
Did the fish start to lose weight before it stopped eating.
Check the anus of the fish to see if it red and inflamed, or enlarged.
What colour is it when the fish goes to the toilet.
Has the fish knocked its mouth on somehting in the tank.


Does the mouth also have a bleached or fluffy white to the lips.

Hi, I haven't seen it's toilet as it sems to spend a lot of it's time in hiding. It's possible it may of bashed it's mouth as the larger one does chase it sometimes. It was always small but not thin, now it looks like it's starving. I think I might put it in the hospital tank today and see how it goes, I didn't want to do this sooner as it's not cycled as haven't used it for a while. It's been running for 2 days, I'll just have to do daily water changes. Oh and no, theres no cotton wool around the mouth, I've seen that before and it's not that.

Try and see what it looks like when your fish go to the toilet.
If they are not growing something wrong like internal parasites.
Or they was just a very bad batch of gouramis.
