The male is what makes the species stunning . . .

A shot of the pair:

They may live only a year, but for a high school senior about to go off to college . . . that may be more convenient . . . I'll be setting up a new tank at school soon just for these guys. Hopefully I can get them to breed before I leave for college. Take the eggs with me. :sly:

Lovely fish. Don't be suprised if they live for much longer than a year. The only reason that they die is because in their natural surroundings, the water dries up but in an aquarium there's no chance of that happening.

Very nice.

I should be picking up a pair of Aphyosemion australe this weekend.

very nice pair tear-scar. I love my killis. and el gecko, australes are so pretty. my male is just stunning.

longhorn-- I'll take some shots for you later, but I'll say that the tank is not that impressive as a whole. The current tank is a recent re-arrangement, so plants that are new look un-grown, and the foreground is weird because I recently cut back the glosso a lot, but you'll see . . .

gadazobe-- It'd be cool if they did. :)

elgecko-- australes are really nice~! I saw them at the same shop I bought these eggersi and I was like, :hyper: . But I decided on the eggersi-- I just kind of like the way the color matches the planted tank (or maybe I juust like the color-- after all I have a badis-only tank with 7 scarlet badis  ). The australes are more relaxed than these guys; all the male eggersi I saw in the shop never stopped swimming/exploring the tank.

Nice , is it best to have one pair to a tank IYE ? do you keep them in a 10 gal or smaller ?
I've been kicking the idea around myself .

You have a nice collection of small fish there ? and the plants as well .

Very nice :D

And yes I've seen somewhere that captive specimens will out live wild , you can't compare dried up water beds with aquariums I guess

I think they're territorial, because in one tank, there were a lot of males flaring with slightly torn fins-- nothing serious, but noticable. In the other tank . . . well, the male I bought strutting around and the others kinda staying at the edges.

Years ago I bred Aphyosemion australe in 5 gallon tanks with a trio, 1 male 2 females. I'm planning on placing my new pair in my 40 gallon planted tank. I do not think Aphyosemion australe are aggressive toward each other if enough females are present. I want to fill my tank with them.
