PLEASE STOP FLUSHING FISH DOWN THE TOLIET DAMNIT! (general comment to everybody!)

UGH!!!!!

Didn't your fish have a fungus also??? If so, then so will the fish that live in the lake and rivers near you.
I will still be flushing my likkle fish, we are in a very big city near sewage works and the fish will not contaminate lakes or rivers because it wouldn't be going near any. Everyone will have their own personal ways sounds like you just like to get the hammer out

 Why flush down the toilet!!! It really frustrates me :(
Ok I prefer for my fish to go back into the water not to the local land fill site !

woah! man calm down! learn something about euthanizing fish before you go judging other people's methods. firstly, dont flush your fish down the toilet, that water in the toilet still has to go somewhere and that somewhere may have fish no matter where you live. and captain retardo is not crazy for using a hammer as a method of euthanasia, it is one of, if not the most quick and least painful methods, it sounds brutal, but its not, and what would you suggest? everything else is worse.

ok no offense but i really dont see where youre coming from with this, you prefer for your fish to go back in the water? why???? all it will do is spread disease to native fish whether you live in the city or not! Plus you can bury your fish, they dont have to go in the bin you know.

I can see this thread quickly turning into a full on debate about the best way to euthanize fish and also whether it's acceptable to flush them down the toilet once dead.

Peoples opinions are always going to differ slightly from the next persons. It's about peoples personal preference. Although smashing a fish on the head is effective (as long as you pierce the brain after!), I couldn't face doing that to one of my fish, just in case I hit in the wrong place, and caused the sufferer greater pain.

But, that doesn't get away from the fact that this thread was made about a member having to euthanize of of his/her fish, so lets not start flaming or get into a great debate here, and just offer comfort to the creator of this thread.

R.I.P

retardo, thats just something i heard. someone online said that they would go into hibernation and die in there sleep. and why the hell did you TRY to kill inecent fish in school!? :-(

I agree with Fishkeeper2006, everyone has their own opinions. I myself had to use clove oil a while ago and found it effective, the poor fish died very quickly from what I could see. Hitting them with a hammer is probably the quickest way but a lot of people just could not do this, myself included. I use to always flush my fish (I think it was the normal way many years ago.) but after reading the views on this site I realised that I was doing wrong and now I bury them.

P.S. Sorry for your loss.

I will try the clove oil (hope I don't have to !) I will not flush anymore, but just thught CAPTAIN RETARDO sounded abit too HAMMER HAPPY for my liking

Thanks FISHKEEPER2006 you have cleared this up for me and very well too :good:

wouldn't a knife be a quicker and cleaner way to take care of it if you have the skill to do so?

And... if your fish died of old age.... would it not be advisable to let it go that way?

I didn't try to kill the fish, I had to do "expirements" on them, it wasn't my choice, believe me, if it was, I would of set up a nice 10 gallon tank for the class and taught the kids about pH, and the nitrogen cycle, and that stuff. (at that time I didn't know anything about fish keeping though)

well I'm sorry that I would want my fish to go out of this world with the least pain possible.

Sorry about going off about the flushing thing though, I live in a state that really values its fish in its lakes, fishing is probably one of the most popular sports here. And it would really devastate my state if there were no fish left in the lakes...
