My brother has a 40L tank and at the minute its completely empty as he is cycling it. (I cant believe I finally convinced him to get some fish and hes actually kinda excited about it :) ) anyway he saw some Keyhole Cichlids at our local fish shop and he really loves them, we have looked online and cant find much info on what tank size a pair of them would need. Do they grow to about 4 inches long? How big a tank would a pair need? thanks in advance from both of us :)

So glad to hear he's cycling the tank! He is adding ammonia and following THIS right?

I havn't had the pleasure of owning these so all I know comes from HERE, which I recommend using that site when trying to find info on fish.
The males might get to 4.5" and the base dimensions of the tank should be 90x30cm, so am thinking this tank is too small. Is your water hard or soft?

his water is slightly harder than mine, for example he has a little bit of fur stuff in his kettle and I have none but i wouldnt say its extremely hard :) and yes he is adding ammonia :) Do you think his tank is too small for 2 females or a male and female pair? He really does love these little fish and he cant afford a bigger tank as he bought the biggest one he could afford, thanks in advance

Unless the tank is 90cm long and 30cm wide then it is not suitable, sorry. :(
