Hey all. I bought a single Keyhole cichlid about 5 weeks ago. He went through Quarantine with flying colors. I put him in my main 33 gallon tank about 1 and a half weeks ago. It is a planted tank with Cabomba and some floating java fern, and amazon sword plants.
Water stats are as follows:

Ph 6.8
Ammonia:0
Nitrites:0
Nitrates:5-10
Hardness: Very soft
Lighting: 48watts on 10 hours a day.

The only company he has is a male Bristlenose Pleco who is doing fabulous.

The keyhole will sit on the bottom all day nearly black with stress. I'm really concerned about him. He eats well, a little piggy if you ask me.

If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

Well, I did a 45% water change because he seemed to be getting worse and worse. Immedietly after I did that he got up and the black stress bars faded a little bit. He kinda moving around a little, but I'll take it.

I wonder if some tankmates may help him feel more comfortable. I believe that they OK to mix with most tetras. This strategy does work with other fish any may be something to try.

They can be quite timid.. moving to a new tank probably stressed it out quite a bit.. I moved my keyholes a couple days ago and they are still pretty black and timid.. Give it some time.. it's probably just uncomfortable from the move.

I have a group of 7 diamond tetras that are in quarantine now, and will be for another week or so. If they check out health wise they may be going in there. I would really like to find another keyhole for him, though. Quite a difficult feat here though lol.
