I bought five small (like 1 inch) Kenyi cichlids awhile ago, and I've read that the males turn yellow as they mature. I think one may be turning yellow-he's really aggressive and chases the other fish around-but he's not really yellow. It's about 2 inches long now, and sort of pale-ish. Is that normal? Will it eventually turn yellow or is it just a weird color variety?

Thanks!

It takes time for them to change color. It'd be nice if you woke up one morning and he was a beautiful yellow/orange :D
However, that doesn't happen. I hope you have a large tank (75 usg +, males can get up to 5-6") w/plenty of hidey spots as these males can be very naughty. Chances are if you end up w/more than 1 male, you may have to return all but one male b/c of aggression. We'll see. Maybe you'll be lucky :good:

Thanks! It just seems like it's been that color for a reallllly long time. I'm probably just getting impatient! Thanks again!

Yea...I have a pundamillia nyererei that supposed to look like this:

He's green w/black stripes ,but he's had red on the top of his dorsal fin and his tail fin for a few months. Eventually they should get there :good:

--edit---this is from 2 months ago
