Hi all

I have a wall in the conservatory which is 5' long and 7' high. I was talking to a fishkeeping mate yesterday about having a setup where i can keep 100 odd males from spawnings etc.

The plan was to build a 4 tier staging system that will house 8 tanks, each measuring 5' long x 8" wide x 8" tall. The tanks will be partitioned off using the "plastic canvas" method giving each fighter 8" (h) x 8" (w) x 6" (l). There will be two such tanks per shelf.

Each tank would be made of glass and drilled at the end so each one would drain to a central sump (filter with heaters). It would be pumped back up to each tank to start the process off again.

What do you think

Are you planning on selling the males? If not, then I'd probably make each tank size bigger. If you are, then please don't post pics as I've no room for anymore!!!!

Ok im as thick as bricks...can you tell me exactly how a sump would work im turning the one bedroom into a fish room and sleeping in the front room haha!
but looked into this it seems to sound better but how would i do a sump? :shifty:

A sump would turn your tanks into a centralised system. In the sump, you'd have the filter media and the heaters plus any chemical filteration you choose.

Waste water from the tanks goes to the sump by gravity, it is then filtered and heated and is returned via a pump to the tanks.

You cut out all the individual filters and heaters within the tanks.

Hope this helps

yeah i'll be getting rid of them. Only veils i'm afraid as this is my first spawning. Babies only a week old although i've noticed them virtually double in size in that time so i've got a few weeks to get everything sorted.

I'd add a UV filter to kill any harmful bugs that could accumulate, problem with centralised systems is that if one fish becomes ill the rest have the potential to get it. At least with a UV it will kill the majority of bugs.

Hey Andy! My S.O.'s building me a very similar system right now! Yay! I want to see how yours turns out. Mine may be a while since he's a med student and in his surgical rotation...but still...someday!!!
