i'ved bought some crckets to feed mainly to my butterfly fish and wondeirng on any tips on keeping them alive as long as posible.

i'ved added some crushed flakes for them and sliced cucumber for moisture at the moment.

what else can i use for moisture as my mum isn't too happy with me nicking hers!!

I suppose you could get paper towels, soak them and put them in with the crickets and also spray them very lightly with a little water every now and then.

i buy cricket water for mine. basically it is just gelatin. looks just like blue jello, but no smell. i think it is just water and unflavored gelatin with color so you can see how much is there. i buy crickets once a week and they live just fine, haven't tried longer, i have to put about 15 in at once for my butterfly to get any so i go through about 75 a week.

I keep crickets to feed my leopard gecko, feed them a slice of lime (could also use orange, lemon, any citrus fruit I would guess). Point being that they can get moisture they need as well as gut-loading vitamin C for the gecko. Don't think this would really be necessary for feeding to fish (the vitamin C aspect of it), but it shouldn't hurt either.

I have occasionally kept crickets several weeks this way.

thanks for the replies, i'll give the wet paper towel a go.

My butterfly fish is managing 3-4 in 1 meal time and then sometimes the convict juvvy's come up and nick one!!!

I'll see if qw have any citrusses in the house.....

I use to keep crickets. Found out that they really stink :S
Do not add too much water as they can easily drown.
What I did was put egg carton on the bottom of their enclosure and then added small/sliced potatoes once in a while or carrots.
I suppose you could add Fluker's cricket quencher or 'food' to feed and supply them with drink.
