Ok I am pretty new to the fish hobby and so far am loving it. Up until now I have never given Bettas a thought. I have seen them in thier tiny little horrible bowls at the store they are a beautiful fish, I am interested in maybe keeping them. Can you keep more than one betta in a tank???

No, at least not males.

Females can be kept together if they are given enough space, but not males, and males are most likely the only ones you will see in the stores.

I was in the same boat as yourself last year, new little to nothing on keeping bettas--so first off there is no stupid question, you only learn by asking those that are more educated in this field. I myself am no expert and have lost my bettas over the Winter, I did have a 10 gallon aquarium setup with 2 dividers and 3 males---one day I came home after a few hours and found one of my males had gotten in with the other and boy was it a sight, one had all fins down to the nub and the other one a little messed up but not so bad. So no by any means put 2 males together and if you do divide a tank make sure they are not able to cross over to each other. I have gotten my 3- 5 gallons and 3-4 gallon critter keeper at yard sales here for only a few dollars, beats going out and paying 20.00 or more on a 2.5 gallon setup. I have also used containers from SAMS WHOLESALE that hold animal crackers and cheese balls, these are very large plastic jars which hold around 2.5 gallons of water, which is great except trying to find a way to place a heater into it. I wish you the best in your indeavors on obtaining the knowledge to keep these little guys.
