My hubby bought me a 1 gallon tank for xmas so that I can have a betta tank in my new office at work. I remember reading that others members have tanks at work at wondered what your experiences are with them? Is this a good idea? Does anyone see any problems with a betta at work? The tank has an UGF (not sure if I'd connect that one) and an airpump. Oh, and I should mention that I've never kept bettas before.

Thanks!!!

Valerie

What are the conditions like at work, does the place have an extended close down period which would leave the fish without food? or does it get very cold there? if neither of these thing come into play I would thought no problems.

caretaker - I'n in and out of the office monday - friday 9-5. The office is open on saturdays but i don't go in on weekends. They keep the temp on evenings and weekends and keep it fairly warm (22C). Not sure what it will be like in the summer as i just started at this job a month ago. So the fish would only get fed 5 days a week then 'fast' for 2.

i have just about the same tank at work. blue seems to like the ugf. i change his water once a week anyways. he also fasts on sundays, when no one is in the office...i say go for it!!

you could also get someone in the office to feed him on saturday. I havve little betta pellets so feeding him the right amount isnt a big issue. Just tell the person whos feeding him however many u put in. Or you could leave a dixie cup with the right amount in it on the desk for them to dump in.

thanks guys for your replies! i think I'll try it.. and first sign of distress I'll bring him back home :)

Now i get the fun job of choosing my new boy

I have two bettas at work, each in their 2 gallon bowls.
I'm the only one who manages water changes but i put a little sheet where people can sign there name when they feed him so he doesn't eat 10 times a day.

The place where I work never closes so there is always someone to feed them. I was surprised how many different people have fed them when i'm not there! Your co-workers will love them!
