after twisting my girlfreinds arm about not getting gold fish for her little brothers 20L tank they came back yesterday with a betta and the guy told them it will be fine at room temp after checking the internet i see this is not the case altho the tank does have a cycled filter so i guess thats something

ive ordered a heater off ebay but it will be a few days before it turns up

do you think the betta will be ok?

i dont really want to risk putting it in my community setup

You dont want to keep moving it from tanks as it will cause stress.

Whats the room temp?

Hmm. I don't know what to say TBH. Someone with more experiance will let you know im sure.

i had one in an unheated tank for about 6 mounths and he was fine. Id say he'll be alright for a few days lol

You could get a hand warmer heat pack and put it under the tank better then nothing. The betta will survive without a heater but it won't be happy in their and be stressed.

I hate it when shops say this. They done the same thing to my first betta and it ended up dead 3 days later. Its good that you have checks up on google and here. It all depends when the heater will reach you. You dont want to keep moving the fish incase of stress. When bettas get stressed they are more known to get Dropsy or pearl-scale. I would think that if you moved the tank nearer the hotter space in the room he should make it through. Just keep an eye on him. Andf make sure the fliter isnt too powerful for him. :shifty:

If he is eating & is active, I would think he would be ok for a few days.

If nothing else, could you possibly put a heating pad set on low under his tank? Do you have a thermometer so you can monitor the water temperature?

I have 3 betta that live at room temperature, been that way for over a year. They are happy, active and eat well.

So i would think a few days will do little harm.

I kept my male pk at room temperature for about a week when i had to seperate him, he was sold to me as a girl. He was fine while he waited for his heater to turn up, ate happily, was even blowing bubble nests lol. Just get a thermometer and monitor the water temp, i found if mine got a little bit to cold i would add slightly warmer water very slowly until the temp came back up. It's definately not an ideal way to keep them but there should be no problem while you wait for your heater. Good luck
