I've never had any trouble with mine and I keep goldfish in it because I took the heater out. Not that there was anything wrong with the heater, I just wanted a coldwater tank.

Hi im having major problems with my lighting system.

I have had th etank now for 6 months and im not about to recieve my second replacement light fitting.

The heater element broke many months ago

Theres my thread ref the lighting.

Juwel are adament there r no probs witht here elec's but when i went to one of my lfs they said they expect all there lighting systems to come back within the year.

I wish i never bought this juwel rio 180 now as a diff lighting sytem that will fit perfectly starts from (new) £120.

I'll keep u all posted as to what juwel say ref the lighting

I've had a rio180 for about 5 years. No problems at all. Still using original filter and heater.

I have just replaced the light unit with a t5 ibar from arcadia as I wanted to upgrade the lighting because I'm going to turn it into a planted tank. plus, the fixings on the juwel ibar have gone brittle (not surprising after so long).

If you dont want live plants (or you want low light level plants) the juwel lights are ok.

I've only got a few fish it in at the moment (2 clown loaches, 5 neons, 4 guppys) as i want to plant it before I stock it up!

i think its a pretty decent tank  its got a nice finish and looks good in the living room!

as njw said it does look good and the tank its self are brill i myself have just been very unlucky with the electrics just the powerhead to go now and thats the lot!!!!

Just been to the LFS to see if they can order me one in and they can so i might order one one on monday.
I got back to read this and my face just fell. Im gutted about the comments on your topic diet, i feel so sorry for you and have been put off aswell.
Im setting up a planted tank aswell. Im gutted now. Feel a bit better after reading njw's reply though.
Thanks a lot Joemuz

hopefully you will be ok, im having probs because wher ei bought it from is 300 miles away so it costs me everytime to post it back, i am thinking about getting a second lighting unit from my lfs and if either fail then to take it back there.

I think it very much like buying a car, some will have problems and others won't, even with cars from the same production line.

Personally had no problems with mine at all and have added 2 lights to it and customised it a bit aswell. I just have a South American community in my tank at the minute but may be changing, watch this space!!

i dont have the rio 180, but the rekord 60, i know they are different tanks but bothare made from juwel.my tank i have had no problems with what so ever, the filter works, the light works, and the heaters works, my bedrooms kept cool so the heater has to be turned up to full to heat the aquarium to 26oC and the water level has to be accurate or the filter wont work, not sure if its different on the rio 180, or if all tanks are the same.

taken a little while ago, thats my Rio 180, i got it seccond hand, it was in perfect condition and the guy had had no probs with it, ive had it about a month now and not had any issues with it yet.. crosses fingers.

Don't worry too much Joemuz. I have a Rekord 96, a Rio 300 and I am getting a Rio450 later this year. I had the tubes fail within 3 months of buying Rio300 but all has been fine since. As Ghent 3rd said there will always be the odd faulty one. Just very annoying if it happens to be yours! :)

I have a Rio 125 and its extremely well made and packaged. No problems with electrics or the tank/cabinet. Id heartily recommend them as an essential tank.

My only moan/grumble about Juwel tanks is the stupid filter box which they insist on silicon gell to the inside of the tank (takes a bit of time to remove but well worth it)

I wouldnt touch juwel again with a barge pole, the Rio 300 i bought was nothing but trouble from the day i bought it, everything that could fail did fail, lights, heater, powerhead and central brace, worst £500 i ever speant.

If you want a decent commercial tank then go with the Rena brand, they cost a bit more but the quality is worth it.
