Hi all,
I've had my tank for about 3 yrs now.every thing fish wize has bin great. But every now and then i hear a anoying noise. i think it's because the heater is to close to the pump it touches it .also the pump fixes in to a black thing which has a d shape like thing at the bottom that then fits into the d shaped thing on the filter wall this is very lose??and doesn't hold it ferm so it then corses it to make a vibrating noise coz the pipe that comes through the hole from the pump rests on the side of the hole.PLEASE HELP ME I'M GOING MAD        :shout: :shout:

Yeah, mine does that too.

On mine it is the pump causing something on the lid to vibrate. I tidied up the wires coming from the heater/pump and also used some non sliprubber matting you can get from Wilkos/Lakeland/Bettaware over the lip of the tank glass to stop the vibrations being transmitted into the lid. Seems to have worked on mine anyway!

Cheers

Mark

had same problem with my 96 i just made nipped the one of the wires for heater or pump under the side of the lid and it stopped the vibration being transfered to the removable lids

Rip the huge black box off the tank and get an external or internal power filter ;)

don't understand??????

Wot about hucking the heater on the out sude of the box??wud that harm my fish ??? Can anyone send me poctures of how the corner box is please.

The pump pushes into a black "rubber" holder - with the D shape on the bottom. If your tank is 3 years old, it is possible that this rubber mount has gone hard and/or distorted; and will not absorb the vibration from the pump itself, hence everything else starts to rattle.

So, have a look at the mount; if it feels hard - buy a new one (about £4 I think?). Problem solved. Well, it worked for me

Also..... sometimes the pump wire can cause the filter lid to rattle; easily cured by moving the wire about a bit. But I suspect it is the rubber holder.

tryed movin the wire,no gud, where do i get a new rubber holder??

I bought mine from here It cost £5 (3 years ago, and it was for a Rio 180).

Have a look on ebay, you can usually find one there. Search for ..... Jewel rubber power head socket.

got a new rubber holder (the thing the power head fits on)Still no change noise still driving me mad.does anyone wont to buy my tank and fish???.HELP

I recently bought a Rio 180 second hand and I really wasn't impressed with the filter. I decided to buy an external canister filter and not looked back since!

If you can afford it I would think about it :)

As for getting rid of the noise, maybe you could try packing around the power head with some old filter sponge or something, holding it in place more firmly? Obviously take into consideration things touching the heater would be bad, and things obstructing flow etc...

Might be worth looking in and posting in the Hardware section for ideas on ways to attack the noise?

I have a Rekord 96 and I don't get that noise. It might be because I changed the heater for a Visitherm 150W and placed it in the middle of the tank near the bottom. I don't like the Jewel heater in the filter for one when you do a large water change or the water evaporates the heater can stop working because too much of it is in the air not the water.

The easiest fix is to take the jewel heater out and buy a heater to put outside the filter box in the middle of the tank.

Personally I wouldn't try taking the whole filter out, I tried it and all I did was bend it and now small fish can get behind it (not good). Anyway in my experience the jewel internal filter is actually a very good filter for the tank.

OK, plan B........... It could be that the ceramic shaft that the impeller runs on, has worn; allowing the impeller to rattle. I had to do this with mine a few years back, and it solved the problem. Can't remember where I got it from, but you should track one down easy enough. Not too expensive either.
